Role Description
Job Title: Inn / Winery Host
Reports To: Director of Winery & Vineyard - Director of Rooms
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full time & Part time
Position Summary
The Inn / Winery Host is responsible for overseeing the guest experience across both the Inn and Winery at Shepherd’s Run, serving as a primary point of contact for overnight and day guests.
This role supports front-of-house operations including guest check-in and check-out, wine service, reservations, and overall property flow. The ideal candidate is hospitality-oriented, proactive, detail-focused, and able to deliver a welcoming and elevated guest experience while working collaboratively with the team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Guest Experience and Service
- Greet all guests promptly and graciously, creating a welcoming and professional first impression
- Provide knowledgeable, consistent, and courteous responses to guest questions, concerns, and requests
- Resolve guest issues to satisfaction and escalate to management when appropriate
- Support the overall guest journey for both overnight and winery guests
Inn Operations and Reservations
- Efficiently and accurately enter registration information for guest stays
- Follow proper procedures related to reservations, payments, dates of stay, and guest information both over the phone and in person
- Complete check-in and check-out processes, including posting charges to folios
- Invite guests to return and reinforce a positive departure experience
Wine Bar and Retail Support
- Promote and sell Shepherd’s Run wines and merchandise
- Educate guests through tastings and conversation to enhance their experience and encourage purchasing
- Share knowledge of wines and offerings in an engaging and approachable manner
- Process sales transactions using POS systems accurately and efficiently
Tasting Room Operations
- Set up and maintain the tasting bar for daily operations
- Wash and maintain glassware and service tools
- Assist with opening and closing procedures
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation of all front-of-house spaces
Food and Beverage Support
- Serve food offerings to guests in accordance with food handling procedures
- Support overall wine bar and tasting room service flow
Event and Vendor Coordination
- Assist with event setup, execution, and breakdown
- Act as a liaison to catering teams and vendors during scheduled events and weddings
- Support guest experience during events and ensure smooth operation
Organization and Cleanliness
- Ensure all front-of-house areas are maintained in clean and immaculate condition
- Restock supplies and maintain organization throughout shifts
- Support overall property cleanliness and readiness
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all sanitation, safety, and alcohol service regulations
- Maintain a safe environment for guests and team members
- Report any issues or concerns to management promptly
Qualifications
General Requirements
- Previous hospitality, service, or customer-facing experience preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask
- Positive attitude and strong guest service mindset
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Interest in wine and hospitality preferred but not required

- Reliable attendance and punctuality are required
Certifications and Compliance
- Must comply with all applicable alcohol service laws and regulations
- Alcohol service certification required or must be obtained within 60 days
Appearance and Conduct
- Adherence to Shepherd’s Run appearance and uniform standards
- Professional, polished, and guest-facing demeanor at all times
Technology and Systems
- Ability to utilize property management systems (PMS) and point-of-sale (POS) systems
- Ability to follow operational procedures and workflows
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift and carry 40–50 lbs as needed
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment
- All work must be performed safely; employees are expected to seek assistance if a task cannot be performed safely
